mini-update

I just realized that my “mail chimp” program that auto-sends you an email when I post a new blog post has been paused! The horror! Hopefully, I fixed that just now, so I’m posting this to catch y’all up since I’m getting back to adventuring! Here’s “Getting Back on the Road!”  http://www.no-destination.org/index.php/2018/06/30/getting-back-on-the-road/ and the most recent “Making Plans”  http://www.no-destination.org/index.php/2018/07/02/making-plans/ If you haven’t already subscribed, put your email address in where is says “Subscribe to No Destination” on the right side bar, and…

Security or Freedom?

Security or Freedom?

(Osceola National Forest, Florida. Hog Pen Campground, on Ocean Pond) There is a quote that is usually attributed to Ben Franklin that most of us have heard in context of political discussion, “those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither.” The other day I was driving along thinking about the prospect of getting a jobby job vs continuing on the road. I need to have income within a month or two or I’ll…

Accidental tourist

Accidental tourist

It was a accident that I happened upon it – I was taking a detour off a highway and thought the road went through. Instead, I ended up at the site visitors center. This was a successful navigation mistake. The Moundville Archaeological Site near Tuscaloosa, Alabama isn’t huge, but very interesting. The museum is worth the time. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Ernst Tinaja – Big Bend

Ernst Tinaja – Big Bend

We broke camp and tried to meet up at the hot springs, but my new friends were leaving just as I pulled into the parking area. They said taking a dip was well worth the time, so I hiked in. There were a number of people in the large open hot…

Mind Games in Big Bend

Mind Games in Big Bend

Solo camping navigating. I’ve been trying to teach Pugsly, but she just wants to sleep. Ow. Don’t mess with Texas. I learned to use duct tape to get those near invisible prickly pear prickers out! Works! It took me two hours to go 10 miles to my new campsite. It’s great! The Chisos mountains and the doggies are my companions. I got to do some outdoor reading, but this giant orange threatening wasp looking creature kept hovering around me, so…

Silver City and Gila Hot Springs

Silver City and Gila Hot Springs

Tuesday, December 20, 2016 Silver City and Gila Hot Springs Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice and yesterday I climbed a mountain to find some hot springs, but first stopped at Silver City, New Mexico. Silver City, NM is an artsy little town similar to a couple of other mining towns I’ve visited, Jerome and Bisbee, Az. It’s interesting that artsy little towns grow from the chaos and destruction of the mining industry. On the way to Silver city, is the…
